ISBGFH Annual Writing Contest

Complimentary British Institute Registration Awarded to the Winner

The purpose of the ISBGFH Writing Contest is to encourage individuals to write about Great Britain and Ireland research problems which they have encountered and successfully resolved. The winning article will be published as the lead article in the fourth quarter issue of British Connections. The winner’s name will be announced on our website.

Each person may submit only one entry. It must be an original article, previously unpublished. Entrants do not have to be members of ISBGFH.
Each submitter is asked to include a brief bio stating:
  • Name, postal address, and email address (published with author’s permission)
  • Number of years of genealogical research experience, including British Isles
Entries should be 2,500–3,000 words and include any appropriate descriptive pictures/charts. Submissions may be done electronically to [email protected] or mailed to ISBGFH, PO Box 3345, Centennial, CO 80161-3345.
Deadline for submissions each year is 1 August.
The article must focus on how a Great Britain or Ireland research problem was resolved. Specific records and depositories will be of help to others and should be noted in the article. Sources should be cited according to the guidelines outlined in Evidence Explained: Citing History Sources from Artifacts to Cyberspace, 2nd Edition, by Elizabeth Shown Mills.
A panel of judges will determine the winner. That person will receive a complimentary registration to a week’s course at the British Institute.

The 2013 winner was Robert W. Hull; his article was titled “A Robert Owen Family / Follow-up on a British Institute Success Story.” There was no winner for 2014.
